Style File: Sharing My Sources of Joy

*Inspired by those excerpts frequently seen in magazines, subject to continued updates whenever inspiration strikes and thought bubbles surface.

My current job is … your all-round wholesome source of serotonin booster, travel companion and Pilates instructor. Before Tahlia, I was … desk bound, working and studying for my CA (CPA for those of you reading from America). I describe myself as … feminine, positive, thoughtful. I love my job because … well, what’s not to love! I get to meet like-minded, generous, kind souls from all backgrounds. It affords me the opportunity to travel and broaden my horizon. This job aligns with my values, such as prioritising self care and education through various hobbies. It teaches me about people and how the world works on a deeper, more intimate level, as well as important lessons on standards and boundaries which most civilian jobs won’t touch. When I’m not busy being Tahlia, you’ll find me … sounds boring, but house admin, looking after indoor plants, and batch cooking. I find it immensely comforting coming home to meals already prepared especially on cold dark winter days. Have you heard this saying “Housework doesn’t kill you, but why take the chance?” So perhaps I’m quite the risk taker ;). Making time for civvie friends, listening to news apps (current go-to is New York Times and the Washington Post), and perpetually playing catch up on piano practice. At the moment, I’m reading … This Is London, by Ben Judah. But my all-time favourite book is … When Breath Becomes Air, by the late Paul Kalanithi. My show habit is … nothing! Not a TV girlie, so no Netflix or any subscription for me. I don’t feel the need to invite a big screen into my space when much of our attention is devoted to social media as it is. Love movies however, a recent favourite is a French film called Full Time, starring Laure Calamy. I’d love to splurge on … travels, and good food when I’m at it. Experiences rather than material stuff. Experiences that pay memory dividends for years to come. I describe my style as … casual, fitted, and classy. A wardrobe item I’ll never part with is … my black silk dress. Wait, can I list two items? because if the silk dress is on the card, then my go-to pair of high heels can’t be cast aside. And my go-to scent is … Le Labo Violette 30. My three dream dinner party guests are … Yundi Li, the Chinese pianist (sorry Lang Lang. If this is a taste preference debate between Coke and Pepsi, I know where I stand :). Stephen Colbert. I’ll think of a third one… A standout quality in a date that is deemed to make an impression/that I find highly attractive is … a sense of curiosity, drive and thirst for life, for living more fully and learning about people and places outside one’s usual domain. This doesn’t necessarily have to mean a passport full of stamps, but through small things such as hobbies or taking up new courses etc. Three Adelaide restaurants/cafes/bars for going on a date are … 78 On Rundle, Bibo Bar and Eatery, Pan & Vine. My biggest guilty pleasure is … fish and chips, all year round.
